The Grainger Foundation Supports Horizons for Homeless Children

Springfield MA, August 14, 2018 – The Grainger Foundation, an independent, private foundation located in Lake Forest, Illinois, has donated $5,000 to Horizons for Homeless Children in support of its mission to improve the lives of young homeless children in Massachusetts and help their families succeed by providing high-quality early education, opportunities for play, and comprehensive family support services.

“As part of our mission, Horizons for Homeless Children provides play opportunities for children living in homeless shelters.  This grant will help us upgrade the Playspaces in shelters here in Springfield, said Joanna Berube, Playspace Program West Region Director. “We build trauma informed Playspaces staffed by trained volunteers for children living in shelter. We are grateful to The Grainger Foundation for its generosity and to the many volunteers who donate their time to improve the lives of homeless children.”

Joanna Berube said these programs currently serve 9 family homeless shelters in Western MA providing 74 hours of play to an average of 184 children each week. Statewide, Horizons for Homeless Children has 92 Playspace Programs providing 632 hours of play for over 1,400 children each week.

This donation was recommended by Karen Archambault, Branch Manager of W.W.
