Dear <name>:

I’m delighted to invite you to join me at Horizons for Homeless Children’s 33rd Annual Spring Gala, which will be held in person on Friday, May 6, at the Westin Boston Seaport District hotel. Let’s share an evening together to focus on seeing Horizons’ families through their difficult times  as  our community once again can gather under one roof.

The children and families at Horizons for Homeless Children are truly the most vulnerable in our community. According to a recent survey of Horizons’ families, nearly 70% reported earning less than $20,000 a year. Almost a third of these families reported they struggle to cover basic living supplies, leaving them to make unimaginable sacrifices like reusing diapers and squeezing their children into clothing they’ve outgrown.

Horizons continues to support children and families experiencing homelessness in a multitude of ways. The new Edgerley Family Horizons Center allows Horizons to be a complete resource: children in Horizons’ early education program receive the trauma-informed care and social-emotional skills they need to be successful for lifelong learning when they enter kindergarten, and their parents can work, attend classes, or take other steps to build a better life for their families. The team at Horizons is committed to making it possible for families to overcome homelessness.

Please consider supporting Horizons for Homeless Children during this critical time. Every dollar directly impacts children and families experiencing housing insecurity in the following ways:

  • A gift of $10,000 helps address the trauma of homelessness and its impact on a child’s development with mental health services for one classroom for one year. Mental health services are embedded within Horizons’ early education program with visiting clinicians who observe children in the classroom to provide insights into children’s behaviors, offer guidance to caregivers and parents to help them support children’s learning and growth.
  • A gift of $5,000 enables Horizons to offer programs and courses for parents, including ESOL, job/career readiness, financial literacy, and other trainings that help move themselves and their families out of shelters and into homes of their own.
  • A gift of $3,000 helps cover the cost of new books and library programming. Horizons’ big, bright library has a curated collection of more than 3,000 books in seven different languages, reflecting key social-emotional topics like diversity and self-esteem.
  • A gift of $1,000 helps underwrite our Playspace Program. As we reopen our Playspaces throughout the state, we will be replenishing our outdoor and indoor Playspaces with games, toys, books, and supplies. These designated play areas in shelters give children an opportunity to leave their shelter rooms for two hours a day to heal through play with other children and our PAL volunteers.

The past two years have come with unfathomable challenges and uncertainty. What is certain is that Horizons can count on its incredible community to build us all up and make us stronger together.

Please visit Horizons’ Spring Gala website for tickets and sponsorship opportunities.

With appreciation,
