Horizons is proud to send a heartfelt congratulations and thank you to our 2021 Boston Marathon team! This passionate group of runners trained through both bitter-cold temperatures and scorching hot days, persevering through a pandemic and fighting through nagging injuries to train for this momentous race in Boston’s history. Before even hitting the starting line they fundraised over $130,000 on behalf of the children, families, teachers, and staff at Horizons to support our mission and programs. Our team consisted of all star competitors – like Jamie Atkin who ran 26.2 miles at an average pace of 6:49 per mile! – and father-son duo Kenneth and Ken Williams who flew in from Mississippi to run alongside each other (with dad being one of 12 in his age bracket!) Mom of three, Caroline Carney, beat her last race time from 10 years ago, this go round with her young children cheering her on from the sidelines. Smiles were shared throughout the course, as two of Horizons’ runners, Nikki and Jenna, met each other by chance at the starting line and got to run the first half of the marathon together, while supporters from Horizons’ staff cheered from various milestones along the race way.
The Horizons Marathon teams’ effort and stories over the last 1-2 years have been tremendous, and on Monday, October 11th they hit the finish line proudly representing our organization in this historic race. Check out some photos of this momentous day below as we thank our runners for all their heartfelt fundraising and hard work!
