We are committed to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for our employees and community that honors our individual experiences and seeks to build understanding and empathy for one another. We work to create a space where employees can bring their true and whole self to work. We stand committed to learning how to improve our organization and taking action to ensure that we live up to this promise.
Horizons hosts several Employee Resource Groups (also known as ERGs, affinity groups, or business network groups) of employees who join together based on shared characteristics, beliefs, life experiences and more. ERGs have traditionally focused on personality traits or characteristics for underrepresented groups, such as race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. These employee-led groups provide a safe space for staff to facilitate dialogue, volunteer feedback, and foster leadership opportunities and connections within our community.
Each group has developed its mission statement and is working toward goals to support this:
The PRIDE Employee Resource Group’s mission is to foster a community of inclusivity, respect, support, and awareness of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions.
The Hispanic/Latinx Employee Resource Group has been formed to build a community where cooperation and empathy are fostered in order to promote inclusion, respect and diversity. We will be encouraging the importance of maintaining open and honest communication that allows us to collaborate as a team to create an atmosphere of integration and belonging within the Horizons for Homeless Children community.
The People of Color (POC) Employee Resource Group is working to establish a dual relationship that benefits organizational needs and creates a safe space and a sense of belonging where employees of color can share resources, have opportunities for growth, and share experiences.
The Allies Employee Resource Group at Horizons empowers employees to self-educate, reflect, and grow to become active seekers of justice and equity within and beyond Horizons for oppressed communities of people.
