Pilates with Purpose Fundraiser 2017

Horizons for Homeless Children is partnering with Pilates with Purpose for an event tomorrow, June 14th. We spoke with Kristen Scanlon, co-founder of Pilates with Purpose, about the event and how the organization supports our work.

What is Pilates with Purpose (PWP)?
PWP was established in 2014 as an innovative and philanthropic networking event for Boston women to be fit, do good, and have fun all in one night! We gather on a bi-monthly basis in different venues around town to workout, give to local causes & connect with other Boston women. Every event features a 45-minute fitness class. All proceeds related to each event go to a local Boston charity – we pick a new one each month! We invite women to mix and mingle after working out, and encourage everyone to build new connections and strengthen their networks with like-minded women.

Why did PWP choose to support Horizons over the past three years?
We focus our do-gooding largely on causes that support women, children, and families with a goal of having an immediate and local impact within our community. We were introduced to Horizons and the great work that they do for children and families in Boston, and knew right away it was a cause we wanted to be aligned with, and were happy to support. Each event we’ve done with Horizons has been a great success!

What advice would PWP give to other Horizons’ supporters who want to run an event to raise money/awareness for us?
Horizons’ mission is so critical to the well being of our community’s children and the brightness of their futures. It is vital to support a wonderful cause like this because it has an immediate impact on children and families in need of support, educational opportunities, and advocacy. Our individual small acts of kindness (whether it’s time, monetary, or otherwise) are exponentially greater when we join together to provide those in need with a helping hand. We give back by the motto “one small gesture to you could mean the world to someone else,” and when we have the opportunity to do so, everyone wins.

Tell us about the event that will be benefiting Horizons on June 14th.
We’re kicking off Summer 2017 with double the awesome guest instructors! Joining us on June 14th will be local Pilates extraordinaire, Kara Duvaland Eliza Shirazi of the popular Kick It By Eliza. They’ll guide us through a 45-minute Pilates-cardio fusion class designed to get your heart rate up, strengthen your core, and improve your flexibility and balance. You can find us at 6:45pm in Dewey Square on the Greenway (across from South Station).  Refreshments and conversation will follow, at the Warehouse (40 Broad Street) with a few special surprises/raffles in store! As an added bonus, all attendees will receive a $15 credit from sweetgreen!

Any tips/suggestions for supporters who will be attending this event?
We have a few! 1. Introduce yourself to three new people. You never know who you’ll meet! 2. Although the workout portion is free and open to the public, donations are encouraged. 3. The event is BYO Mat + water! Or ditch the mat because we’re on the grass! See you soon!
