Turning Data into Better Outcomes for Children and Families

At Horizons for Homeless Children, we believe data should do more than satisfy reporting requirements—it should help children and families thrive. 

We’re grateful to Horizons Advisory Council Member Marie Giandomenico and Social Finance for featuring Horizons in the article, “How Early Childhood Systems Can Turn Data into Better Outcomes for Kids.” The piece explores how early childhood organizations can use data not just to meet compliance requirements, but to strengthen programs, improve decision-making, and deliver better outcomes for children. 

The article highlights how Horizons has built on the same data systems required for reporting to create a more connected approach to supporting families. Rather than collecting information simply for compliance, our teams use it to coordinate care across programs, monitor curriculum implementation, and continuously improve services. For example, when a family coach learns a caregiver has lost stable housing, that information can be shared with a child’s teacher, helping educators recognize changes in behavior, sleep, or engagement and respond with additional support.  

That collaboration is a hallmark of Horizons’ nationally recognized Two-Generation (2Gen) Model, which recognizes that children thrive when caregivers thrive.
